For faculty, staff and graduate students, Stanford University strongly recommends against, but does not prohibit, travel to countries where the U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 3 or 4 for either the country destination, or for the particular region or location of intended travel within the country destination. There are no restrictions for travel to countries or regions within a country that are rated Level 1 or 2.
For undergraduate students, similarly there are no restrictions for travel to countries and/or regions within a country that are Level 1 or Level 2. However, if the country destination is a Level 1 or 2 and there are regions within the country that Level 3 or 4, additional steps will be required. Stanford-sponsored or Stanford-organized trips to Level 3 or 4 countries is prohibited for undergraduate students. See below for an easy to follow color coded assessment guide.
