The Office of International Affairs works with a team of subject matter experts poised and ready to respond in the event of an overseas incident. The International Response Team, originally known as iSTAT, is comprised of committees with designated responsibilities to oversee during an overseas crisis, including health and safety, infectious diseases, medical response, evacuation and family communications. Each member of the team has at least two levels of backup, to ensure there is always someone ready to step in.
Using easily available resources and technology, operational team members can check the ongoing status of a situation and see the activities of other operational teams. The International Response Team team has been called in for multiple incidents a year.
