New International Travel Assistance and Emergency Medical Insurance Beginning June 1, 2024

Stanford Global Risk and Risk Management & Insurance are pleased to announce that Stanford University will soon partner with Crisis24, a new travel assistance provider, beginning June 1, 2024. Crisis24 will replace International SOS in supporting the health, safety, and security of individuals on Stanford-sponsored and Stanford-organized international travel. In addition to Crisis24, Stanford will provide travelers with international emergency medical insurance coverage through Zurich.

  • Travel Assistance: Crisis24 provides a suite of medical, security, and travel assistance services ranging from pre-trip advising and risk mitigation to assistance in identifying local medical providers and arranging evacuations. Through Crisis24 and its parent company, GardaWorld, Stanford will have access to a large network of on-the-ground safety and security teams worldwide with highly specialized expertise in analysis and support. Similarly, Crisis24’s extensive medical team will support Stanford travelers globally.
  • Travel Medical Insurance: The Zurich blanket insurance program provides an equitable, comprehensive, and seamless emergency medical insurance solution, on a pilot basis, for Stanford’s faculty, staff, students, and postdocs while traveling abroad. Together, Crisis24 and Zurich will provide a streamlined and integrated approach, with a vast network of coverage and guarantee of payment for individuals on Stanford-sponsored and Stanford-organized travel seeking care abroad.

How does this change affect me?

Beginning June 1, 2024, Crisis24 travel assistance and Zurich travel medical insurance will be available to all travelers participating in Stanford-sponsored and Stanford-organized travel. During this transition, International SOS services will remain in effect until June 24, 2024.

Undergraduate Students: Per the Provost’s International Travel Policy, undergraduate travel to certain locations is restricted, based on country-specific International SOS travel ratings. These International SOS-based restrictions will remain in place through the Summer Quarter 2024. Units sponsoring undergraduate travel should expect a revised policy based on Crisis24 ratings effective Fall Quarter 2024.

What to expect:

In the coming weeks, additional details will be forthcoming, to include:

  • An overview of the Crisis24 platform, services, and resources
  • FAQs on the coverage details and exclusions of Zurich travel medical insurance
  • Informational sessions to provide updates, solicit feedback, and answer questions
