Travel to the Middle East
The University continues to strongly recommend against all Stanford-sponsored travel to or through Israel, Iran, Bahrain, Cyprus, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey,* and the United Arab Emirates through at least May 31, 2026. Individuals or campus units with planned Stanford-sponsored travel to these countries through June 2026 are strongly encouraged to e-mail globalrisk@stanford.edu to schedule a safety and security consultation.
Undergraduate students are prohibited from traveling to these locations to participate in university-related activities.
Amid the ongoing conflict, Stanford’s ability to render emergency assistance, up to and including emergency evacuation from the countries listed above, will likely be severely curtailed without prior notice.
As a reminder, all international Stanford-sponsored travel must be registered in accordance with Stanford’s registry requirement. Travelers experiencing medical or security emergencies abroad should contact Crisis24, Stanford’s global emergency assistance provider, at +1-443-716-2305. All Stanford travelers are encouraged to download the Crisis24 Horizon Mobile app and monitor alerts for their destination(s).
*Travel to or through Istanbul, Turkey, may proceed.
If you need health, safety, security assistance while traveling outside of the United States for Stanford-sponsored or Stanford-organized travel, contact Crisis24: +1 (443) 716-2305
If you are a U.S. permanent resident or visa holder detained by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at a U.S. port-of-entry, referred to secondary inspection, or found to be inadmissible to return to the United States by a U.S. government official at an international CBP checkpoint, call the Stanford Travel Emergency Line (STEL) at +1-833-496-0303 immediately and ask to be transferred to Global Risk. Stanford University's central functions of teaching, learning, research, and scholarship depend upon an atmosphere in which freedom of inquiry, thought, expression and publication are given the fullest protection. Expression of the widest range of viewpoints should be encouraged, free from institutional orthodoxy and from internal or external coercion. Any attempt to limit these freedoms or openness, or to create an unsafe environment is unacceptable.
If you have concerns, please contact your school Dean's Office or the University Compliance Helpline.
